I liked it. The author is very talented and the premise was pretty original.
BUT...
The first chapter was horrendous to get through. As a mother (and I was pregnant with baby #2 when I read this...BAAAAAAAD choice!) I do not like reading about abuse of children. Also, it was hard to suspend my disbelief. Things wrapped up just a little too conveniently.

I avoided this book when it came out. Such hype! So long on the bestseller list! (am I a book snob?) I finally bought it because it just had to be done, and thought the first half was great. However, about 2/3 of the way through it somehow loses the plot and meanders for a while. And that last bit just doesn't make any sense to anyone who has worked with rape victims. The writing in this book is pretty amazing, maybe not exactly the writing but the way the author creates things from possibilities and fantasies. I enjoyed reading ot a second time and hope to remember it longer this time.

By the end of the book, the storyline just kind of floundered, and I was unsure of the point she was trying to make of many passages that she included. Also, as anot ...more

An interesting premise, but not quite as good as advertised.
