What Members Thought

‘So, in a nutshell, a man walked into a crowded bank in broad daylight, took two million kroner, murdered a woman, strolled out, up a relatively unpopulated but heavily trafficked street in the centre of the capital of Norway, a few hundred metres from a police station and we, the salaried police professionals, do not have a thing to go on?’ Harry nodded slowly. ‘Almost nothing. Nesbo, as usual, keeps the reader guessing with his plot twists. Harry, as usual, both astonishes and exasperates by turns. In this tale involving bank robberies, murder, gypsies and revenge, Harry finds a use for his anosmia and teams up with a new partner with an overactive fusiform gyrus (remind me to use this for my next rock band name). Of course he finds the answers, but in the process suffers a few close shaves and is himself a suspect.

Harry Hole's 4th book was taking off very nicely, it's as if the first 3 books are just a (longish) foundation to prepare us for this book. The adventures, mysteries, and all those character development were played out very nicely here!

I think that what I like most about Harry is that he doesn't trust anyone, which I find way more plausible for a long-tenured police officer than, "What? This likely suspect lied to me, and now I/my family/my friends are in danger?! How did that happen?!" A hat-tip to a detective that's actually suspicious of others' motives - oddly too rare in crime fiction.
