Shucks. What is there left to say about this book? With the face of the young Carson McCullers staring out from the cover, you are left wondering how much of Mick is really her. And how she came up with the depths of these characters at such a young age. And how many things she explored without saying much. Her characters are so real you feel you know them, even if their behaviour is largely inexplicable. The major characters all project something onto Singer, who in turn is completely absorbed
