I would actually give this book three and half stars. I think the only reason it is not four is because I had a hard time reading it. It is not a fast read by any means. That being said I stuck with it and am glad I did. I learned a lot from this book about Edgar Allen Poe. I had no idea there was a controversy surrounding his death. I never really thought it was believable that the main character in this book was so obsessed with figuring out what led up to Edgar Allen Poes death. Just witnessing Poes funeral never really seems like motivation enough. A lot of the book just drags on. I did find the final explanation given at the end interesting.

Pearl's latest foray into the literary thriller genre revolves around the mysterious real-life death of Edgar Allen Poe. Alas, the book is far from thrilling, and falls flat on multiple fronts. For full review, see http://www.amazon.com/review/R37STXGO...

Great research marred by a weak and uncompelling protagonist - it's tough to root for a guy when you think he's a total ninny.
