This is one of the best in this series. I am very pleased to see that Grafton has not lost her edge despite a long-running series.

There are 87 named and described characters. Of those, 14 were important to the plot, plus another 11 important supporting characters, and the 7 “auxiliary” characters (Kinsey, Henry, William, Rosie, et al). The other 63%, we never needed to know their names. I’ll admit, the resolution was satisfying. I liked learning how they were all connected (some in ways I had not guessed) and I liked learning how it all turned out. I loved the fact that Vengeance really was an important motivator for many ...more

Another fine entry in the Kinsey Millhone canon. Intriguing plot complemented by the minute details of detective work in a world before cellphones and the internet. This series started in the early 1980's set in the present day, and each book picks up right as the last leaves off. Thus, 30 years in real time translates to only about 8 years in Santa Teresa time. I really missed Kinsey the past couple of years but she came back strong. Maybe it is just me but Sue Grafton and Kinsey keep getting better. I am so glad that Grafton doesn't have the "pressure/need" to grind out a book six months after the last one. I found "v" to be well written and crafted. I really liked the way each different character/story was woven into the next so seamlessly. I just wish that I aged at the same rate as Kinsey ...more

I was scratching my head for a while, trying to figure out how all these various threads were going to come together. I had faith they would, and they did, a nice complex web elegantly played out. I love Kinsey Millhone! I'm a little sad Sue Grafton is getting close to the end of the alphabet, but I guess I've got another 5-8 years before "Z." ...more

I can't believe that this author wrote a book for every letter of the alphabet. And I have to start at "V"?
My local library doesn't have the earlier ones, so it was the only place to start. The series came highly recommended, but somehow this one didn't spark for me. Good enough for a light read, not memorable just 2 days after I finished it. Meh.
