This book is a perfect October read. It's scary, complex, creative, and it made me think beyond the customary ghouls and demons that readers find in horror books these days. I am amazed by what the author was able to accomplish through multiple layers of his storytelling about a house that has a room like no other, and how that house effects the family who lives in it, and the people who follow, who wish to understand both the house and that family's experience.

The only reason I'm even attempting to write anything about this book is that it's my person goal in 2010 to write about/review each book I read. However, with House of Leaves, I don't think reviews are at all useful, as it's a book to be experienced. It is not simply a matter of preferred genre, style, or subject matter, but rather encompasses the way one uniquely translates activity.

Instead of offering a review, I will merely address how I felt about a few aspects of the book.

Very interesting book. Tons of stuff to think about. Took a long time to read, stretched too far at times, but in the end very much worth it. I am going to have to read it again at some point to try and get more out of it, because I know there's a lot there that I probably didn't catch. ...more
