This book is on the 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die list (I have to admit that I chuckle at the "Must Read" aspect of this list). What is interesting about Bassani, is that he made sure The Leopard by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa was published, a book that is also on the 1001 list, and parts of it are just perfect. One other coincidence to me of this book is that the characters discuss Israel Zangwill, who was married to Edith Ayrton Zangwill, a writer and suffragette. I am reading her b ...more

I have learned the parts of the jewish life during fascism rule. Also I really liked the character Micol and how it was build.
My copy of this book is in romanian.
