A stunning piece of work. I find McEwan's writing incredibly seductive. He makes me swoon. Such a simple little story about a couple's wedding night that packs an incredible amount of punch, because McEwan says so much in so few pages. I really need to read more from this fine fellow.

I admire McEwan's writing itself; he has such a wonderful way of expressing emotions and character. However, is it just me, or do his books feel as if they're actually going somewhere only in the climax? Consider both Saturday and Atonement as other examples. Chesil Beach is yet another.

As I read the book, I thought it was so cute, these fumbling awkward kids.
Then it kinda got a bit darker.
The ending surprised me, but of course, there was no other way to end it.
