I give 3.5 stars for this book and another 0.5 stars for its idea.
I mean - this book is chilling and all, and many said it's still relevant to this day (I agree). But one thing I don't really like is the way this books is written - there are so many vague plots and loopholes that I found unsatisfactory. It's not as if the plot is mysterious, it's just very unclear. Why the situation happened, how it happened, and all the explanations that I wished Atwood would give just a bit more, just to make ...more

I want you to kiss me, said the Commander. Well, of course something came before that. Such requests never come flying out of the blue.
Yes this is a classic and I've never read it! But now I finally have! In 1986, when this was published, I was in college, too busy reading textbooks on Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Calculus to make time for a lot of current sci fi (I managed a few choice books ... but not this one, obviously).

Especially disturbing to read this during the current bout of woman-hating. Beautiful, difficult, terrifying book. I need to read it again already.
