So my main motivation for reading this book is because I desperately want to see the movie and haven't been able to yet. On the other hand I love a goods kids book about a horse as much as the next girl.

What I loved most about this book is that it was written from the point of view of the horse Joey much in the style of Black Beauty. The way the author wrote it is perfect for readers young and old to enjoy as it is not overly simple or overly complex.

I think that the author Michael Moepurgo di

My niece recommend this book. It's intended for young readers (8 and above), but I think everyone would enjoy it. It's about a horse and his life journey. I love that the story is told by the horse, adds an interesting perspective to things.

Well written and enjoyable.

This was a good book to listen to on a 5 hour drive with a 12 year old boy. We both enjoyed it. The reading by John Keating was exceptionally good, with the various accents. Highly recommended for a parent-child read or listen.

This was a very thoughtful book on World War I, as seen through the eyes of Horse.

What an excellent idea for a book! Our main character is Joey, a farm horse, and he is going to war. It certainly turns things around to have a horse tell a war story. And who wouldn’t love having a noble and loyal horse as our main character?

I don’t think I will ever forget that wonderful scene when Joey walks right through No Man’s Land and both sides hold up white handkerchiefs for a temporary halt to gunfire to help the horse.

I wouldn't call this book a pleasant read. The very notion of horses being used in war is stomach turning for someone who grew up with these amazing creatures and Morpurgo doesn't sugar coat any of it. But the human-horse bond is so clear in this book that it makes it feel a bit like a personal journey. Can't wait until the play makes it my way! ...more

Obviously written for children, but you gotta love the horses in this one. Just 100 years ago horses were an important part of the war effort. Now they are a luxury few of us can afford as a companion or sport.
