For a good part of the book I was rating this much higher, thinking that Ishiguro was doing something daring with an unreliable narrator. Underscoring that sense were a couple of improbable coincidences that, to my mind at least, would later reveal or explain themselves as Detective Christopher Banks' fragile and carefully constructed world came under more and more stress.
