Wow. I devoured this book. It pretty much hit all the right notes for me: exotic places, a little romance (but not too much), spies, MI6, deception, and fashion. This WWII book was riveting. And it provided a new perspective: the main character is in Spain during the Spanish Civil War and WWII. For a short period of time, she also lives in Morocco. Most WWII books that I previously read were centered in Germany, France, Britain or the U.S.

I enjoyed the first half, but this book could have been successfully written in 300 pages, not 625. I made it to page 400 and then lost interest. The author just put too many pages into mundane facts, history lessons, trivia, etc.

I felt like the book dragged on at points and was a little slow, but I did grow attached and was sad to finish the last page.
