Not every classic story is going to be a five-star read, I guess. I had such high hopes for this book, and for the first half of the book, my hopes were realized. But then I hit the last half, and the story sagged and dragged, and the humor got lost, and it felt like melodrama.

This is a book that has been on my bookshelf for years and I have finally read it. Though it will not be a favorite of mine, I am glad I read it.
What a soap opera with all the misfortune and the vicar s inability to take responsibility. And the women in his life were no more enjoyable to me as characters either. I was glad I read this on the kindle as there was vocabulary that I needed to look up often.
Easy read and some funny parts but at the same time very uninteresting with a boring and flat main character.
