This is so exquisitely "Mandel" - I can't put my finger on what it is I love about her writing, but it's there. She writes so beautifully.
The story loops backwards and forwards in time, and is broken into four parts. I liked how each part was treated almost as a separate book, with some things repeated and told to the reader again, as if we didn't already know.
