Temele cărții pe care Barnes le abordează sunt iubirea, familia, prietenia și mai ales, destinul uman. Titlul este o metaforă sugestivă care are legătură cu ideile și viața personajului masculin principal, Tony Webster. Este o carte destul de complexă și eu nu am citit-o atât de rapid pe cât aș fi vrut deoarece are idei pe care trebuie să le analizezi la modul profund.
