My, does Pat Conroy overwrite, wring every word out... And I relished every single second of it. I understand why those who don't like him, don't. But I'm a devotee from this day on. This is my first Conroy, I'm shocked to say, but it won't be my last.

I enjoy Conroy's writing, plus. I love books about books.

I loved this life in reading and how he read 200 pages a day, trying to 'out read his generation." I finished this book and ordered about a dozen new ones he referenced.

I have always enjoyed Pat Conroy's ability with words. I enjoyed his book about the influences in his life and writing. Because I was a child growing up in the South slightly after Conroy, I was surprised that there is no mention in the book of the milestone of my childhood, To Kill A Mockingbird, which certainly influence me and others after me as much as Gone With the Wind. On the cover, the author's name is significantly larger than the title. This is important, fellow readers. Alarms always go off in my head when I see the author's name displayed in type that is significantly larger than that of the title. Silly me, I had assumed this was a new Conroy book. Wrong. It's a collection of recycled essays that are (mostly) about Conroy's reading life. Lots of nice pieces.

If you happen to love Pat Conroy's books, then this is another one you can add to that list..It was wonderful to read, as all his previous books were, and I am so glad I got to read it...I'm sure anyone out there will feel the same way if they happen to love his books as much as I do!!!
