I read this initially because I just love the city of Chicago. I also love architecture and history. Perfect mix.
This is not a quick or easy read, and is full of many many intricate details.
But I love the way the author integrates 2 stories as one...the mystery/murderer aspect, alongside the amazing events of the World's Fair in Chicago. This includes learning how many of Chicago’s important buildings and city layout came from this historical event. ...more

History (non fiction, too!) is so not my cup of tea, so I was a bit nervous when picking up this book. But it turned out to be one of the best books I've read this year! The narrative is mesmerizing, it captured my attention since page one. The way Erik Larson told the story as if it's a novel making this book so much easier to digest. disappointed that I didn't enjoy this one as much as his Garden of Beasts. Still impressed by the historical research Larson does and his ability to bring these events to life.
