What Members Thought
Not being religious and, probably, as a consequence, not being very well informed about religious matters, I was at sea in this one even more so when the lesbian theme came to the forefront. I need more knowledge before I can give an informed opinion.
Sometimes I look at the shelves I put books on and think, "Really? That's kind of weird." But then, this is a kind-of-weird book. Winterson's handling of the Pentecostal faith is perfect - it points out the absurdities while remaining restrained from histrionics, which lets you draw your own conclusions rather than get caught up in a prescribed opinion. Very sharp.
