I first read this back in 2006. Hunter's romp through the hypocrisy and corruption in Puerto Rico feels timely even now. In a strange way the deterioration of the press chronicled by Thompson feels almost prescient, even though it harkens back to a time when you could still get a job as a journalist. ...more

I read this book for a book club, and I must confess that while I generally found it to be a pleasant enough read, it wasn't really my cup of tea. I did enjoy the vivid descriptions of Puerto Rico as I felt like I was very much in the mix of things, but there was such a slenderness to the story. I really didn't find much to like or dislike about it. ...more
