To tell you the truth, this is one of the most difficult books I've ever read. It's not only because of the language (I can endure difficult language as long as the story is engaging), but the story itself! The plot is very dragging, even though all the messages and symbols used are pretty clear. M-am tot gândit și răzgândit cum să scriu câteva impresii despre acest roman clasic despre care poate mulți dintre voi l-ați citit sau de care măcar ați auzit. L-am citit prima dată în al doilea an de Litere și țin minte că mi-a plăcut. Citindu-l acum, la distanță de vreo 12 ani, îl privesc cu alți ochi și cu o experiență literară ceva mai bogată. When I first read this book in high school, I absolutely adored it. I loved the language; I loved the characters; I felt myself deeply, deeply involved in the story. I was amazed by Hester's strength, drowned in Dimmesdale's shame with him, was terrified by Chillingworth. In the parlance of our times: intense.
