I wasn't crazy for the story. I thought that the author tried to do too much here. The writing was nice, but the story, although poignant at times, left me basically flat. My one caveat was Leo. I really loved him as a character. He was so funny, sad and real, which bumped the book up one star on the rating for me.
Many of my GR friends loved this book. Maybe it didn't resonate as well with me because I listened to it on audio instead of reading it.

The History of Love has actually been on my bookshelf for seven years and I never picked it up to read until now. Sure I looked at it, flipped through the pages, considered reading it but something else was always more important to read at the time. Difficult to get into at first, but the last third really brings it home as Krauss slowly reveals the structure that's holding her whole story together. She writes beautifully and really gets at the heart of loneliness and loss - in several places I found her words making me introspective about my own life, which is a rare talent.
