The stories of Borges have always been enjoyable. In this volume however they are only 1/2 the volume, with the other half either being autobiographical or about the creation of they story. Initially interesting, that became boring quickly and the last 1/3 was a trudge.

The stories are of the Argentine small towns and Buenos Aires around the turn of the century. The stories of gaucho and fights and a time that seems mythic and dated today. Still, at his best Borges spins a tale that us always a

I never was a big fan of this kind of mix of fantasy and reality. I usually prefer those fiction works that are either set in an imaginary world or that are deeply rooted to reality.
