The complete title of this effort is much too long as is the book. The initial idea which was to find out what happened to a shipment of plastic ducks made in China that lost part of its cargo en route is intriguing, but there is way to much detail that was no essential, making reading it a lot like treading water which was mostly molasses.

Very uneven - parts are really interesting (such as the section on modern container ships), and others are very much not (such as the college-essay-esque textual analysis of Moby Dick). There's something poetic that someone whose day job is to edit writing is in need of someone to do it for him.
