Outdated but still marvelous novel of children with telepathic powers living in a rigid and deadly apocalyptic world. We can relate to the theme of not fitting into society and it being a serious threat to the prosecuting powers to be. Four stars for the novel being so ahead of its time and the gripping writing.
Rereading of a sci-fi favorite first read as a teen. It was just as enjoyable the second (or was it third?) time. The version I originally reread was entitled Rebirth, though I'm not sure if that's the UK or US title.
Wydham is particularly good when his protagonists are children, as they are in this case. In a post nuclear holocaust world, the survivors have turned to a repressive and literal form of religion which insists that all mutational forms are the devil's work. The religious-dominated ...more
