Anne of Green Gables for a slightly older audience. A sweet read with the obligatory happy ending.
Great story. Loved this book.
This was much better at the beginning, when the spinster Valancy is being badgered by her close-minded family (mum + aunt) and she becomes all sarcastic to them upon finding out a bit of news about herself.
I am a big fan of Montgomery's starry-eyed descriptions of nature and Canada, but reading her at a more, ahem, elderly stage of my life, I find her resolutions a bit too neat, and the meanness of mean people a bit much. ...more
