In some ways, it's good to come into a classic with no more thought than it's worth a whirl simply because of its status in the canon. Otherwise, I probably would have passed this over - stream-of-consciousness is a tough style for me to love, but for whatever reason I'd never previously connected it with Woolf even though that's plainly what she's done here. Virginia Woolf was definitely ahead of her time. This book contains some of the most beautiful prose I have ever encountered in English (even though at times I had to really think about what I was reading and get back on track). I would recommend reading this book in one sitting due to the stylized, flowing way that it is written.
