Salma ajunge în Londra, iar acolo este nevoită să o ia de la zero. Se simte străină, marginalizată și trece prin momente greu de imaginat pentru un om care trăiește în țara lui, în casa lui și are o familie. Nu am înțeles niciodată de ce la final Salma abandonează o ambiție mai veche. Mi-ar fi plăcut să citesc un alt fel de final. Este un roman despre supraviețuire, prejudecăți, dar și despre curaj.

Acum câteva luni am citit o carte care se numea Arsă de vie și era scrisă de o scriitoare pe nume Suad. Țin minte că mă tulburase profund și am zis că puține cărți mă vor șoca atât de tare. Da, ați auzit bine: acea carte m-a șocat și în același timp, mi-a plăcut (...)

Shelves: travel-the-world

I had a very hard time getting into this book because it jumped back and forth in time, with little or no notice. Once I was used to that, I enjoyed the writing tremendously. I find it a little ironic that the title comes from Prince's song "When Doves Cry". Again I am reminded of how awful women are treated where they have little or no rights. ...more
