Naguib Mahfouz is a Nobel prize winner for literature, and I have read a portion of his Palace Walk and enjoyed what I read. So I was looking forward to reading this work. I have to admit that I wasn't drawn into this book as I was Palace Walk, I did enjoy that this book focused on one alley in Cairo. I felt the characters were a bit over dramatic.
