It's hard to rate this book with 5 stars since it is the most disturbing and appalling book I have ever read. However, it gets 5 stars for the fortitude that the author had in writing about this often overlooked crime against humanity during World War II. Not only are the deliberate, horrific atrocities committed by the Japanese objectively portrayed but Chang even specifically notes that "no race or culture has a monopoly on cruelty" in highlighting the motives behind the seven weeks of unspeak ...more

Somehow, I managed to begin listening to this audiobook, and then, I actually finished it.

This is a very powerful book. It addresses the atrocities of the Japanese during their occupation of this city during WWII and indicates the animosity that still exist between these two Asian nations.
