I read this book when Oprah selected it a number of years ago. It's well-written but the subject matter is a downer. A quick read; I would recommend it, but not go out of my way to read it. ...more

A challenging book on many levels, largely because Schlink resists the temptation to editorialize - he simply lays out a relationship and a history and allows the reader to judge the characters on their merits.
