Great Expectations in Around the World in 80 Books

I read this in 9th grade and it was very interesting plot-wise, but I preferred The Odyssey.

In the meantime, quite a few men I know love this book. Maybe they find Pip relatable? While I do think this book is one of Dickens' strongest in terms of construction I think he should have stuck with his original ending and I *still* think it's overrated. I almost thought of giving this only two stars but towards the end it did get better and kind of bittersweet. It wasn't overall a memorable read. I missed grand details so typical of Dickens and more engaging story with fascinating characters. Pip especially had me yawning and was left a bit two dimensional. To put it mildly, Great Expectations it was- were my expectations met? Not really.

I gave this book a chance. And no, don't confuse me with someone who just doesn't like books from times long ago. Its not the "oh you just don't understand- times were different long ago.
