Though not entirely perfect or surprising I would recommend this for every vampire fan. Being very subtle may be one of the story's faults but also makes it extremely fascinating for the atmosphere it creates.

This is the book I wished I had read when I read Dracula last year. While, Dracula is a classic, Carmilla actually predates the iconic Bram Stoker novel, and provides a similarly spooky and compelling story in fewer pages and with more evocative prose. Told from largely the perspective of a young girl who is the focus of the “young”-seeming vampire Carmilla, with a touch of sapphic love and youthful exuberance, the story unfolds as a near fever dream. I love the originality of the story (it’s predated Dracula and even considered its inspiration)- but the narrative is sometimes a bit dense (well, its a classics so what do you expect lol)

This was a fun, short, creepy gothic story dramatized by actors on Audible. While some of it escaped me because of old-timey language, the gist of the story was well-done and the acting really great. I enjoyed it!
I wish I read this before I read the remake - Carmilla and Laura. The latter added details from someone's headcanon and both are too alike.
