My dad laughed when I told him this was the book I read on the train, but I actually think it was the perfect way to read it. This was my second time reading it. The first time I got so wrapped up in the whirlwind, breakneck speed in which it is written, perfectly crafted to put you in Raskolnikov's head, that I had no idea what hit me after I finished it. Re-read - Chapter 4:
I read this in high school—my first experience with Russian literature and how wonderful the years have been since. I loved it when I read it then, so it's time to read it again and see how the experience varies. I have always been a re-reader; sometimes simply for pleasure but often because plot is out of the way so I am free to revel in language & meditate on meaning. A few books I've read recently have reminded me to not entirely neglect this habit for new-t0-me books.
