I quite enjoyed this famous detective story and found it very readable and cleverly written. I also relished the descriptions of the glamorous, epic train journey - what a fantastic setting for a novel. But the big problem was that I already knew whodunit, having seen two films based on the book (and in fact had the ending spoilt for me even before I saw them.)

I mainly read this because I wanted to see the movie adaptation and I always like to read the book first. I had, of course, heard of Agatha Christie and Hercule Poirot before. But I was never very interested in reading any of her books because I'm simply not a huge fan of straight up murder mysteries. I generally like romantic suspense. One of Christie's classics, and deservedly so - the twists and turns give that great jigsaw effect that typifies the golden age of English mystery perfectly. A must-read for any crime-novel fan that wants to see what all post-Agatha writers have been holding themselves up to.
