This book is Vol. 3 in the Isabel Dalhouise "Sunday Philosopher" series, by the much-esteemed (& rightly so!) author, Alexander McCall Smith. I loved it and enjoyed getting back into the lives of the cast of characters surrounding Isabel's life. She is always ruminating & thinking of the philosophical angles to things that happen to her and/or around her--I love it. And some big things happen in this volume in the series! ...more

I thought that this book started a bit slow, but then it intrigued me and I kept reading. With a surprise ending, it has enticed me to move on to the next one in the series.

Best of the series so far, and the least "mystery-oriented". But don't let that bother you. This author is consistently good. Human nature is examined as a matter of course in his books, they're always interesting and thought-provoking. ...more
