My second McCall Smith book, first in the "Ladies' Detective Agency" series, but surely not the last! I loved this and love Smith's engaging writing & story-telling style. What a cast of interesting characters are so well portrayed!

The author's writing style really fits his subject material. The slow, dignified way in which Precious conducts her life, her investigations and her business has something rather old-fashioned and charming about it. Enough to make me pick up most of the series and read them. Should be 3 and 1/2 stars.

Light entertainment. A good book to read on vacation;good enough to read the next in the series! I may be hooked.
Cosy mystery. I can see all the colors and feel the African heat.
