Lacking the beauty and finesse of her other writing (and I absolutely adore To the Lighthouse and Mrs. Dalloway). I appreciate the concept and commentary about sex and gender, and Woolf's impressive imagination, but this would have been better as a nonfiction essay.

This book is not my cup of tea as I am neither a fan of magical realism nor Virginia Woolf. I read it for a book club and while there were many moments that resonated and I could appreciate why other people might like it, it ultimately left me cold.
In my humble opinion this novel is far more better that "To the Lighthouse". I could at least followed the main character and decide if I like it or not, I managed to enjoy it because of the wit and spirit this book is written and I could at least draw a conclusion of my own regarding the reason why someone bothered to write this story. Despite all this, it was not too much the kind of books I like to read.
