Murder novels require a very strict pattern. The readers expect the same elements in all such novels and a writer can deviate too much from that pattern. Still Agatha Christie is one of the biggest masters of this genre and no doubt that she could also write a different kind of novels. But her early fame with such novels made her editor and the public keep demanding similar books.
This one remains the general frame of the genre, but still it is brilliantly written. I am not a big fan of the genre
