Compulsively readable melodrama hitting all the majors of lust, money, power; I didn’t expect it to be as funny as it was. However, I’m rounding down for two reasons. I thought the pacing was off in terms of when the moments of highest drama took place in the book and Adeline is unendurable. Still lots of fun as well as a compelling view of French society during the reign of Louis Philippe.
