When you read a chapter-a-day on a book for three months, you tend to get fiercely attached to the characters, either positively or negatively. That's what happened to me with The Mill on the Floss.

If you don’t mind novels that end up in a kind of troubling, unresolved way then, read this. Artful character development. The main character’s relationship to her brother is said to be almost autobiographical of George Eliot’s (remember, a woman author’s pseudonym) relationship to her brother.

I think it will take me a few days to process this novel. Eliot brilliantly made me feel, care and relate to the characters. The novel follows Maggie and her family the Tullivers through happiness, loss and redemption. I absolutely loved Maggie but her striving to goodness drove me crazy. As I said I need more time to wrap my mind around the ending which was so devestating to me.
