What Members Thought

When you read a chapter-a-day on a book for three months, you tend to get fiercely attached to the characters, either positively or negatively. That's what happened to me with The Mill on the Floss.
I liked Maggie from page one. She is everything I love in a character.
Her brother? Her mother? Even her father? Not so much.

I think it will take me a few days to process this novel. Eliot brilliantly made me feel, care and relate to the characters. The novel follows Maggie and her family the Tullivers through happiness, loss and redemption. I absolutely loved Maggie but her striving to goodness drove me crazy. As I said I need more time to wrap my mind around the ending which was so devestating to me.

It is a slow read. The detailed description of the land is beautiful but I just can't deal with the slow movement now. Maybe I will try it again later.
