This is my second or third re-reading of the novel (which I own), and while it pales a little in comparison to the very first time I encountered this book, it brought back a flood of beautiful memories and images.

Re-reading a book in one's 30s, which one has read in one's teens (I think that's when I first read it, at least), can be an eye-opening experience. All the anti-feminist rhetoric of Avonlea flew right over my head when I was much younger, but I am so much more sensitive to it now. And
