What starts out as a trip on public transport to visit family has far-reaching consequences. Each member of the family is forced to look at their relationship with their missing mother/wife and feel the guilt of their own shortcomings in their relationship with her. Who was this woman really? Why did she have several serious-sounding ailments and not pursue treatment? This is a book that will stay with me for some time.

This is a zinger of a novel. (And why, why, why, I ask, am I reading this novel at this time? So mysterious.) No one is looking after Mom and, after a while, Mom just wanders off. Her family doesn't even realize she is missing until she has been lost for some time.




And where does she go? No one knows for sure, but her family sees her, or what they think is her, everywhere.




Told alternately from the point-of-view of the various family members, this is a powerful story. I think I would love it eve

This is the third book I've read by Shin. I love her writing style, and to be honest, I can't decide between this or I'll Be Right There is my favorite by her.
I think what these characters go through when they find out that their mother is missing, is something we all go through, particularly when our mother dies: who is this person we call mom? Do we know who she is outside of our relationship with her?

For the Semi-Charmed Kind of Life Summer Reading Challenge.
This book is the second for a pair of antonyms based on the word, "After."
I selected it because of that and I needed something I could transfer to my Kindle for when I traveled to China and didn't want to lug along a lot of books. No expectations of this one.
