Ah. Still we do it, indeed. I had to finish this before I could really move on with my workweek! I only had 15 pp to go.

This Australian classic is a long family saga spanning three generations, starting with the family’s move from New Zealand to the Australian Outback in the early 1920s. Though moments of good fortune and happiness occur from time to time, it’s mostly chock full of drama. Death, loss, woes, broken dreams and heartbreak plague the Cleary family throughout the decades. Even Mother Nature seems to have it in for them as they suffer droughts, floods, heat and fires.

Doesn't deserve 5 stars, but it was the first thrilling grown up novel I read after Gone With the Wind, so I give it high marks for the memories! ...more
