I have re-read 1984 about every five or six years. This year I re-read it because my brother is in the process of revising the entire book into something like 2084 with Donald Trump replacing Big Brother and Trumpspeak replacing Newspeak.

I think I read this book 50 years too late. Even though I don't remember reading it in high school, most of it was familiar. But i can't even imagine the impact it must have had in the late 40s early 60s so close to the possible takeover by Hitler and Stalin. So many of the images and words are in common use now.
I think it is funny they even had a Jeopardy category dedicated to the book,but I got none of them right. Newspeak, Oceania, Big Brother - OK now on to frivolous summer reading. ...more
