This is definitely a classic in the mystery genre - written in 1926! The way she plays with us, sending us in one direction and then another is masterful - and she probably taught generations of mystery authors to write that way. Her dialog, her vocabulary and her phrases are magnificent. But for some reason I did not connect to the characters or the actual mystery. It was written almost 100 years ago and maybe that is why. I heard this was one of Christie's best works, so I gave it a shot. It was OK, but I felt that the plot was too predictable, so it didn't impress me so much as a mystery. Admittedly, I rarely read this genre, so I don't have a lot to compare it to.

It is hard to read these classic mystery stories this day and age, because so many of the genre's key tropes have become stereotypes. This was still an enjoyable mystery and you can tell why Agatha Christie became a classic. Overall the entire premise reads a bit "dinner mystery theater" these days, but it was still an enjoyable mystery with fun characters.
