I can't quite believe it, but I have now read all six of Jane Austen's novels. I feel quite proud of myself.
Mansfield Park is my final Austen read. It's the story of a poor girl, Fanny, who is sent to live with her affluent relatives. 3.5 stars. While Mansfield Park is still a masterpiece in terms of Austen's keen observations on society and character, it doesn't have the sparkle or wit of Pride and Prejudice. Fanny and Edmund feel very dull and sanctimonious as the heroine/hero compared to the far more dashing and acerbic Elizabeth and Darcy (plus there is the "ick" factor of them being first cousins, though acceptable in the early 19th century).
