Jacob Portman is a 16 year old living in Florida. Jacob's grandfather Abe has told him wild stories about his youth at a school in Wales. When his grandfather mysteriously dies Jacob and his father travel to Wales to try to find out more about Abe's past. Miss Peregrine and I are done. We are parting ways and trying to keep it civil. She thinks my expectations are too high (which is silly because judging by the cover you would think some pretty big thrills were ahead). Eerie photos - they're real! Great premise, and the characters worked, but the pacing feels a little off - the first half is a lot of waiting for things to happen, and the climactic scene goes on and on. The tension between real/not real and where one's home really lies make for good themes. A gap in the story logic here and there, but it's hard not to have any when you're doing time-centric fantasy.
