I don't remember the last time I read an Elizabeth Peters book, decades probably, but I am very glad I read this one. Yes, there is a murder mystery, but really the strength of this book relies on the wonderful relationship between Peabody, Emerson, their incredibly precocious son Ramses, and the humor that is on every page.

Ramses is a great sendup of that old Garrison Keillor trope, "and all the children are above-average." He's patently unrealistic, but still utterly charming.
