Instead of picking up right where Outlander left off the book begins in 1968 with Claire and her daughter Brianna traveling to Scotland. About a hundred pages in the narrative returns to Claire and Jamie in France, trying to find a way to stop the Scottish uprising of 1745 and the slaughter of Culloden. This book was quite a snoozefest for me and I was desperate to fnish it just so I could read something else. It just dragged far too much without ever being truly engaging or absorbing. I quite enjoyed the first book in the Outlander series and expected the second to be even better to so I dived right into it. Needless to say I was very disappointed.

Well, watching the show has put a damper on these books. Reading what I just watched was getting a little tedious. I appreciated the books much more when what came next was an actual surprise. These are extremely well written and interesting books. They are all over 1,000 pages in length that I can see, but Gabaldons writing style makes reading them easy, fun and the pages turn fast. I'm just glad to be at a point in the books where I do not know what to expect. As much as I love the show, start

I just finished re-reading this and I am amazed at how much it felt like the first time. The ending was absolutely heartbreaking. I can't wait to move on to Voyager!
