I picked up this book because my Favorite Person Ever, Harry Connick Jr., just finished filming the movie version with Hillary Swank and I wanted to read the book before the movie comes out. I hope this will be one of the few occasions where I enjoy the movie better than the book. I liked the story, although it was not particularly well written, but the ending left me unsatisfied. Picked this up because I enjoyed the movie adaptation so much, and, well -- I'm glad I saw the movie first, because I wouldn't have gone to see based on this book. I mean, it was fine. The premise is engaging -- dead man helping his grieving wife to move on with her life through a series of letters he left for her -- but the writing was just so painfully purple that I nearly chucked it across the room a couple of times.

This book is ok, a bit fluffy, which worked outs ok if you don't want to think. If you do put active thinking in this book you may find several mistakes like I did. I would recommend this book for those who enjoy brainless reading and fluffy romantic chick lit. I chose this book because I needed just that at this time. I am not sure that I will see the film, it really doesn't look any better.
